The shingle-style mansion sits on a bluff with unobstructed views of Narragansett Bay and the Newport Bridge in the distance, and that combination of formal architecture and wide-open water gives us two very different moods to work with in a single wedding day. Ocean Cliff’s grounds slope down toward the water, with manicured lawns, mature trees, and a stone terrace that catches the last of the afternoon light. It’s a setting that rewards florals with real presence — arrangements that can hold their own against the horizon without fighting it. We tend to lean into loose, garden-gathered shapes with plenty of movement, letting trailing greenery and textural blooms echo the wind and water rather than looking stiff against it.

Indoors, the mansion’s rooms bring a completely different energy: dark wood paneling, tall windows, and a sense of old-world formality that calls for richer color and more structured design. Once guests move indoors, we look for opportunities to bring the outdoors back in — low, lush centerpieces that reference the gardens, or a single statement installation over the sweetheart table that draws the eye up toward the room’s high ceilings. Candlelight does a lot of heavy lifting in these rooms, and we design with it in mind, choosing bloom colors and finishes that catch warm light well after sunset.

Because the mansion’s interior rooms have their own architectural character, we’re careful not to over-decorate. The goal at Ocean Cliff is almost always to complement what’s already beautiful about the space, not cover it up.
